The Research Council of Finland (RCF) today published the call texts for the 2025 spring call. The call texts are available in English, Finnish and Swedish. The review guidelines and forms are only available in English.

Under skolornas sportlovsvecka den 17–23 februari ordnar Helsingfors stad tiotals evenemang för barn och unga i Helsingfors. Största delen av stadens evenemang under sportlovet är helt gratis eller förmånliga så att alla ska ha möjlighet att delta. Specialutbildad personal står till förfogande på ungdomsgårdar och idrottsplatser samt i bibliotek, kulturcenter och museer så att barn och ungdomar i Helsingfors vare sig behöver gå sysslolösa eller vara ensamma under sportlovet. För att delta i ungdomsgårdarnas sysslor behövs ett så kallat Jässäri-medlemskort (namnet är en förkortning på det finska Jäsenkortti). Suomen Akatemia rahoittaa vuoden 2025 aikana korkealaatuista tieteellistä tutkimusta ennätyssummalla. Valtion talousarvioesityksessä Akatemian jaettavaksi on osoitettu noin 515 miljoonaa euroa uusien tutkimushankkeiden rahoittamiseen sekä tutkimuksen edistämiseen.

Finnish research projects aim to revolutionize the bioaerosol observations, advance the forecasting tools, and provide game-changing information to society across Europe and at the global scale.

Halting biodiversity loss requires companies to minimise their negative impact on biodiversity, i.e. their biodiversity footprint. So far, however, biodiversity footprint assessment tools have been in short supply. A joint project of the University of Jyväskylä, S Group and Sitra has now developed a method that points the way forward for the business sector in this respect. It is a groundbreaking project, even on an international scale.

Helsinki Biennial 2023 is delighted to share the 29 international artists and collectives participating in its second edition, New Directions May Emerge, curated by Joasia Krysa and produced by HAM Helsinki Art Museum. Opening to the public on 12 June, an annual Helsinki Day celebration in in the Finnish capital, the biennial comprises around 50% new commissions and site-specific works which engage with some of the pressing issues of our time, encompassing environmental damage, political conflict and the impact of technology. For New Directions May Emerge, Krysa has joined forces with five curatorial collaborators: Critical Environmental Data, Museum of Impossible Forms, TBA21-Academy, ViCCA @ Aalto Arts, and an A.I. Entity.

The friends of architecture celebrate the virtual 15th Alvar Aalto Symposium – Future of Industry, which will be broadcast from Jyväskylä on 12.–13.8.2021! The theme of the Future of Industry will be explored from the topical perspectives of architecture, art, industry and technology.

In its Postdoctoral Researcher funding decisions, the Research Council for Biosciences, Health and the Environment stressed the high scientific quality of research and the pursuit of international collaboration.

The return on Ilmarinen’s investment portfolio was +4.8% (-7.5%) or EUR 2.5 billion thanks to the positive performance of the equity markets. The market value of investments grew to EUR 55.4 (53.3) billion. The long-term average return on investments was 6.0 per cent. This corresponds to an annual real return of 4.5 per cent.
