The boat industry is already seeing the first signs of demand picking up after a downturn. The Helsinki Boat-Afloat Show UIVA FLYTANDE, starting on Thursday, will showcase nearly 300 different types of boats, ranging from small dinghies and rowboats to luxury yachts.

The Finnish boating industry's joint Suomiveneilee.fi test drive event will bring together over 40 different motorboats for test drives in Lauttasaari, Helsinki, on May 17–18. Finland's largest in-water boat show, Uiva Flytande (Helsinki Boat-Afloat Show) will take place this year from Thursday 17 to Sunday 20 August.

Last weekend's Helsinki Boat-Afloat show attracted a top audience in hot weather to the marina. More than 12,100 visitors interested in boats, boating equipment and services visited the show during four days. More than 250 boats were on display at the event, and all the accessories and services of the boating industry were comprehensively presented on the sold-out land area of about two hectares.

The popularity of boating has risen to a record high, and this can also be seen in Helsinki Boat-Afloat show: in the area of HSK yacht club harbour in Lauttasaari, the docks will be full of big and small boats next week. After a one-year break, the Uiva Flytande boat show will be held again from 18 to 21. August 2022.

The 2022 sales season in the Finnish boat industry started earlier than usual, but the peak of the sales season is somewhat late due to the cold spring. The boat industry employs about 3,500 people in Finland and the turnover of Finnboat member companies is almost one billion euros.

At the beginning of June, anyone interested in boating will have the opportunity to try different boats at sea. More than 20 different boats, from small outboard motorboats to sailboats, will be available for testing at the suomiveneilee.fi (“Finland goes boating”) test days. The test rides are free of charge for the participants and the boats always have a skilled professional skipper.

Sunny and warm weather favoured the Helsinki Boat-Afloat Show, which was held last weekend in Lauttasaari, Helsinki. The total number of visitors this year exceeded 10,000. Although this was slightly down from the previous year, as expected, this year’s visitors clearly came with the intention of buying, which boosted boat sales. The ongoing crisis created additional challenges to the arrangements of the event, but on the whole everyone was satisfied with the show.

Cottage holidays and domestic tourism have provided a positive boost to the Finnish boat industry this summer: 22 percent more boats were registered in the first half of 2020 compared to the same period last year. Whereas around 4000 watercraft were registered during the whole of last year, already more than 4200 different boats were registered in Finland by the end of July this year.

Boating is more popular than ever. The summer boating season culminates at the Helsinki Boat-Afloat Show, which once again offers four days of boating excitement for the entire family.

The Finnish Marine Industries Federation Finnboat is organising its annual Helsinki Boat-Afloat Show on 13-16 August 2020 once again at the HSK yacht club in Lauttasaari. Preparations for the show have continued apace despite the corona crisis this spring.
