Kaksi uutta HAM Helsingin taidemuseon kuratoimaa, prosenttiperiaatteella rahoitettua julkista taideteosta on valmistunut helsinkiläisiin oppilaitoksiin. Matias Karsikas suunnitteli Peukaloisen puutarha -reliefin Kalasataman Arielin päiväkotiin ja Emma Rönnholm mobilen kaltaisen veistoksen Fragment av himmel Munkkiniemen Hoplaxskolaniin.

Arte Povera – A New Chapter explores the work of women artists inspired by the Arte Povera movement, which emerged in Italy in the 1960s. The exhibition celebrates the power of modest materials through the work of more than 20 international artists. In addition to showcasing contemporary creators, it also features artists who were active during the early days of the movement. The exhibition creates an international context for the concurrent retrospective of Karin Hellman, which opens at EMMA at the same time. Both exhibitions will be on view at EMMA – Espoo Museum of Modern Art from 9 April 2025 to 1 February 2026.

EMMA – Espoo Museum of Modern Art presents the first extensive museum exhibition dedicated to Karin Hellman, a bold and experimental reformer of Finnish modernism. The retrospective showcases Hellman’s diverse art, characterised by her playful use of a wide range of materials and techniques. Her body of work connects with Arte Povera – A New Chapter, an international group exhibition opening at EMMA at the same time. Both exhibitions will be on view from 9 April 2025 to 1 February 2026.

The Sculptor of Ultima Thule presenterar Tapio Wirkkalas verk – mästaren i form och material – för den japanska publiken i en omfattande utställning för första gången. Retrospektiven öppnar lördagen den 5 april 2025 på Tokyo Station Gallery och firar konstnärens 110-årsjubileum med en omfattande helhet på 300 verk. Under 2025–2026 kommer utställningen att turnera till olika platser i Japan.

The Sculptor of Ultima Thule presents the work of Tapio Wirkkala – master of form and material – to a Japanese audience for the very first time. Opening on Saturday, 5 April 2025, at Tokyo Station Gallery, this retrospective marks the 110th anniversary of the renowned artist with a comprehensive presentation of 300 works. The exhibition will tour multiple venues in Japan throughout 2025–2026.

Two new exhibitions are opening at EMMA – Espoo Museum of Modern Art. The first major museum exhibition of Karin Hellman will showcase the artist’s diverse art that experiments with various materials and techniques. Hellman’s work draws parallels with the Arte Povera – A New Chapter exhibition opening simultaneously in the adjacent space. King Frederik X and Queen Mary of Denmark visited EMMA – Espoo Museum of Modern Art on March 5, 2025, as part of their official state visit to Finland. They were accompanied by Finland’s President Alexander Stubb and his spouse Suzanne Innes-Stubb, who are hosting the royal visit. During the event, EMMA unveiled a new acquisition for its collection, a work by Danish artist Poul Gernes (1925–1996).

EMMA – Espoo Museum of Modern Art welcomes the spring season with a vibrant celebration of colours and patterns in printed textiles. Draped – Art of Printed Fabrics offers an immersive way to explore textiles as an art form that adorns our homes, bodies, and memories. The exhibition showcases the artistry of printed fabrics by 31 designers and artists and will be on display from 12 February 2025 to 14 March 2027.

The exhibition Draped will launch EMMA – Espoo Museum of Modern Art’s 2025 exhibition programme with the art of printed fabrics by over 30 designers and artists. The long-time Director of EMMA – Espoo Museum of Modern Art, Pilvi Kalhama (Ph.Lic.), has been appointed Director of the new Museum of Architecture and Design in Helsinki. Kalhama will remain Director of EMMA until the end of July and will take up her new position on 4 August 2025. The Board of Directors of the EMMA Art Museum Foundation will launch the recruitment process for a new director in February.

EMMA – Esbo moderna konstmuseums mångåriga museichef, FL Pilvi Kalhama har valts till chef för det nya Arkitektur- och designmuseet. Kalhama fortsätter som chef för EMMA till utgången av juli och tar sig an sitt nya uppdrag 4.8.2025. Styrelsen för EMMA konstmuseistiftelse inleder i februari processen för att rekrytera en ny museichef.

EMMA – Espoon modernin taiteen museon pitkäaikainen museonjohtaja, FL Pilvi Kalhama on valittu uuden Arkkitehtuuri- ja designmuseon johtajaksi. Kalhama jatkaa EMMAn johtajana heinäkuun loppuun saakka ja aloittaa uudessa tehtävässään 4.8.2025. EMMA-taidemuseosäätiön hallitus aloittaa uuden museonjohtajan rekrytointiprosessin helmikuussa.

Taiteen ja muotoilun koskettavat sisällöt, tilalliset elämykset sekä geometristen muotojen ja värien voima houkuttelivat EMMA – Espoon modernin taiteen museoon 140 801 kävijää vuonna 2024.

HAMin vuoden 2025 näyttelyt ja kuvataiteen suurtapahtuma Helsinki Biennaali nostavat esiin ei-inhimilliset toimijat, taidemaalarit kautta vuosikymmenten, Ars Fennica 2025 -palkintoehdokkaat sekä ranskalaisen taiteilijan Marguerite Humeaun mahdollisia tulevaisuuksia ennustavat, moniaistiset veistosvisiot. Vuoden 2025 näyttelyt esittelevät teoksia lähes 120 taiteilijalta tai taiteilijaryhmältä. Lisäksi helsinkiläisten taidekokoelma kasvaa ja on yhä mittavammin esillä myös julkisessa tilassa. HAMin tavoitteena onkin maksimoida taiteen läsnäolo Helsingissä.

Collection Kakkonen has gained a new, softer dimension with the addition of traditional ryijy textiles from the collection of Finnish businessman Kyösti Kakkonen. The exhibition also introduces a new section highlighting works by educators who have had a profound influence on Finnish design, alongside fresh acquisitions from contemporary artists Santtu Mustonen and Renata Schirm.

Collection Kakkonen har fått en ny, mjuk dimension i form av ryor från kommerserådet Kyösti Kakkonens samling. En ny avdelning som belyser lärare som har haft ett väsentligt inflytande på den finska formgivningen har också öppnat, och nyförvärvade verk av samtidskonstnärerna Santtu Mustonen och Renata Schirm inkluderas i visningen.

Collection Kakkonen on saanut uuden, pehmeän ulottuvuuden kauppaneuvos Kyösti Kakkosen kokoelman ryijyistä. Lisäksi näyttelyyn on tuotu esille suomalaiseen muotoiluun merkittävästi vaikuttaneiden opettajien tuotantoa avaava osio sekä uudet teoshankinnat nykytaiteilijoilta Santtu Mustoselta ja Renata Schirmilta.

EMMA – Espoo Museum of Modern Art has received a donation from the New Carlsberg Foundation to acquire a series of paintings by the Danish visual artist Poul Gernes. The donation of 2.5 million Danish kroner (approximately €330,000), has enabled the purchase of this multi-part artwork, which will be showcased at EMMA in 2025, marking the artist’s centenary.

EMMA – Espoo Museum of Modern Art has commissioned a new work from visual artist Pasi Rauhala for the Venturo House, located in Tapionpuisto in Espoo’s Tapiola district. The installation, titled Kudos and featuring immersive projections, brings light and warmth during the darkest months of the year. Created in collaboration with City Events Espoo, which manages the Venturo Studio, the piece will be unveiled this Saturday, 16 November, as part of Tapiola’s holiday season opening festivities. The installation will be on display in the Venturo House until the end of February 2025.
