A-Katsastus Group the first vehicle inspection company to expand its service range for motorists

The reformed vehicle inspection legislation entered into force on 1 July 2014, after which inspection stations have had the right to offer other automotive services as well. As a result of the reform, A-Katsastus Group has launched the recommendation and sale of car accessories. The introduced service will be expanded to cover approximately 150 stations belonging to the group by the end of the year.

According to Kari Kivikoski, CEO of A-Katsastus Group, the new service concept named Autotarvike+ is part of the group's focused business strategy, which aims to introduce services to the markets which make motorists’ lives easier and promote road safety.

“Previously, legislation limited our service range to just other trade-in inspections, such as Car Doctor, in addition to standard vehicle inspections. The new legislation allows us to develop our services, and our work in Finland will be even more diverse than before. We have received a great deal of customer feedback on the lack of quick fixes for small problems found during vehicle inspections. Now we can answer this need immediately,” he says.

According to Kivikoski, the experiences of the first few weeks have been positive and customers have been satisfied with the service. Based on this feedback, the aim is to introduce the service also on the stations of the Estonian subsidiary next year.

Hannu Pellikka, Technical Director at A-Katsastus, who is also responsible for Ajovarma's operations, has followed the development of vehicle technology and road safety issues since the 1980s. He is satisfied with the opportunity to utilise the expertise of staff more extensively.

“Vehicle light defects observed in inspections have been increasing for a long time and now you can get bulbs to go from us. It also benefits everyone that we can, for example, check the oil level and recommend that oil is added even if it is not part of the statutory vehicle inspection process. According to studies, up to one-fifth of vehicles in traffic would need immediate topping up of oil,” he says.

Next year, you can, for example, get windshield wiper blades changed, oil added or windshield washer fluid topped up at A-Katsastus Group stations.
