Turku Music Festival brings Samuli Putro to Logomo and string duo to Ruissalo villa on Night of the Arts
The Night of the Arts will be celebrated again in Turku on 15 August. The Turku Music Festival is contributing music for strings, at a concert by Samuli Putro and another at Villa Leppäniemi in Ruissalo. This is a rare opportunity to see inside a 19th-century villa not usually open to the public.
This year sees the 35th Night of the Arts in Turku, and the Turku Music Festival is again involved with three concerts at two venues: Samuli Putro: 10 + 10 = 20 and At a 19th-century villa.
Samuli Putro is celebrating his 20th anniversary as a solo artist with a tour around Finland. He appears at Teatro at Logomo with a unique string ensemble, presenting a cross-section of his career up to and including his most recent hits.
“The Samuli Putro concert will be fantastic. Every year, we organise performances outside our core of classical music, yet we always make sure that performers and ensembles fit in with our festival and portfolio. Samuli Putro is a perfect fit, because he is exceptionally performing with a string ensemble. String instruments are also featured at the concerts at Villa Leppiniemi, so the concerts on the Night of the Arts form a larger entity besides being part of the Festival as a whole, of course,” says Eveliina Salminen, Sales and Marketing Manager of the Turku Music Festival.
Villa Leppäniemi is a 19th-century villa in Ruissalo owned by OP Turun Seutu bank. It was restored to its original glorious guise a few years ago and is now used for private functions by the bank. The Night of the Arts offers a rare opportunity for the general public to have a look inside, at two concerts organised by the Turku Music Festival featuring violinist Rebecca Roozeman and cellist Artturi Aalto.
Irma Hyvärinen, Director of Change and Development at OP Turun Seutu bank, has been instrumental in making the Villa Leppäniemi concerts happen. “It is great that we can offer Villa Leppäniemi to the Turku Music Festival as a home concert venue. The plan was delayed by the pandemic but is now finally happening. We are pleased to open up the villa to music lovers, and I look forward to the music performed by young, talented musicians in the unique setting in and around the villa,”
Concerts of the Turku Music Festival on the Night of the Arts:
Samuli Putro 10 + 10 = 20 at 19.00 at Teatro at Logomo
At a 19th-century villa at 15.00 and 18.00 at Villa Leppäniemi
The concerts on the Night of the Arts form part of the Turku Music Festival in 2024. The Festival runs from 8 to 29 August.
