Sweco has established a new Sustainability consultancy business unit in Finland with the aim of growing Sweco into Finland's largest sustainability consultant. The new unit is based on Gaia Consulting's current personnel and business operations, as well as sustainability teams and experts from Sweco's other divisions. A total of approximately 150 Sweco employees will transfer to the new business unit by the end of the year.

Iida Vakkuri has been appointed Director of the Sustainability Consultancy business unit. Vakkuri will also continue in her current role as Sweco Finland's Chief Sustainability Director and Member of the executive team.

"Gaia joined Sweco in 2021 and now we are taking the next big step in developing our sustainability consultancy. Gaia employees have top-level expertise and three decades of experience in driving the green transition and sustainable growth of their clients. Our other divisions have diverse expertise and services, especially in project-level environmental consulting. By bringing our experts and services together, we will create a strong foundation from which to grow Sweco into Finland's leading company in sustainability consultancy. Our goal is that by 2027 our new business unit will already be an employer of 300 sustainability experts," Iida Vakkuri says.

The new Sustainability Consulting business unit offers solutions, services and tools for clients from strategic planning to practical implementation and impact assessment at the level of both the entire business and projects. With the expertise and experience of Sweco's sustainability consultants, Sweco will expand its current service offering especially for the implementation of sustainability strategies.

"Companies are starting to have their green transition strategies in place, and now they increasingly need expert advice to implement their strategies in their businesses and operations. This is a significant growth area in which the new business unit will focus in particular. In addition, we have significant growth potential in offering sustainability consulting services comprehensively to Sweco's existing clients. Our goal is to create an entity that clients cannot ignore and that provides meaningful work for experts in the field," Vakkuri says.
