Value and number of contactless payments grew in the second quarter of 2024
The second quarter of 2024 saw the highest quarterly value of card payments on record since 2022 at EUR 19.0 billion, i.e. EUR 0.5 billion above the previous peak. This represents continuation of a long-term upward trend. In the second quarter of 2024, Finnish payment cards were used to make a total of 635 million card payments, i.e. 7% more than in the corresponding period a year earlier.
The aggregate value of contactless payments made in the second quarter of 2024 was EUR 6.8 billion, 18% more than in the corresponding period a year earlier. In the second quarter, a total of 402 million card payments were made using the contactless feature, 10% more than in the second quarter of 2023. In comparison with the first quarter, the number of contactless payments also increased by 62 million (18%), and the aggregate value grew by EUR 1.2 billion (22%) in the second quarter of 2024.
A total of 106 million remote card payments were initiated on a computer or mobile device in the second quarter of 2024, i.e. 20% more than in the same period last year. The aggregate value of remote card payments (EUR 4.1 billion) grew 19% year-on-year.
The number of card payments made using a microchip or magnetic strip decreased by 16% year-on-year to 127 million transactions in the second quarter of 2024. Their aggregate value also decreased by EUR 0.5 billion (6%) year-on-year to EUR 8.0 billion in the second quarter of 2024.
Cards issued in other euro area countries than Finland were used to make card payments totalling EUR 158 million in Finland at domestic[1] payment terminals in the second quarter of 2024, i.e. 15% less than in the corresponding period last year.

Tolv månaders Euribor har sjunkit från toppnoteringen hösten 2023 (4,2 %) till under 2,5 %. I november 2024 var 86 % av de finländska hushållens och företagens1 utestående banklån2 (249,1 miljarder euro) bundna till Euribor och av de nya utbetalda lånen3 85 %. Genomsnittsräntan på nya hushållslån sjönk efter ett uppehåll på över två år i november till under 4 %. För ett år sedan i november var genomsnittsräntan ännu 5,42 %. I november 2024 bestod 69 % av de utbetalda banklånen till hushåll av bostadslån, 21 % av konsumtionskrediter och 10 % av övriga lån. Genomsnittsräntan på utestående hushållslån (141,2 miljarder euro) fortsatte att sjunka i november och var 4,24 %. The average interest rate on new household and corporate loans has decreased rapidly, and the average interest rates on the loan stocks have begun to recede. The one-year Euribor has declined from its autumn-2023 peak of 4.2% to below 2.5%. In November 2024, 86% of the stock of bank loans1 to Finnish households and non-financial corporations2 (EUR 249.1 bn) and 85% of new drawdowns3 was linked to Euribor rates. In November, the average interest rate on new household loans declined below 4% for the first time in over two years. Just a year ago in November, the average interest rate stood at 5.42%. Out of all bank loans drawn down by households in November 2024, 69% was housing loans, 21% was consumer credit and 10% was other loans. Referensräntan enligt 12 § i räntelagen (633/1982) är 3,5 % för tiden 1.1–30.6.2025. Dröjsmålsräntan för denna period är 10,5 % per år (referensräntan med tillägg för sju procentenheter enligt 4 § i räntelagen). Den dröjsmålsränta som tillämpas i kommersiella avtal är 11,5 % per år (referensräntan med tillägg för åtta procentenheter enligt 4 a § i räntelagen).
