Riverrecycle surpasses significant milestone of 4 million kg waste removed from world’s rivers
RiverRecycle, a Finnish start-up pioneering river plastic recycling solutions, has reached an extraordinary milestone of collecting cumulatively over four million kilograms of waste from waterways and the environment globally. This achievement underscores the rapid growth of the company’s operations, with its waste collection doubling within months.
Since its inception, RiverRecycle has accelerated waste collection at a remarkable pace. Having doubled its collection from two million kilograms to four million in less than six months, the company is seeing significant momentum in its operations. This surge highlights the effectiveness of its operational model and the urgent need for such initiatives in today’s environmental landscape.
Anssi Mikola, CEO of RiverRecycle, shares his thoughts on the milestone: “We have seen a remarkable acceleration in our waste collection capabilities. Our scalable model is successfully turning the tide against plastic pollution. As we grow, we’re not just stopping waste from reaching the oceans but transforming it into something valuable. And in doing so, those who engage with us - whether by supporting our river cleaning services or utilizing the materials we produce - become part of that transformation.”
This latest milestone also comes as RiverRecycle continues to secure its place as a leader in riverine plastic management. A key feature of RiverRecycle’s strategy is its innovative circular economy model, which transforms collected plastic waste into valuable materials such as recycled plastic boards. These boards are used in construction, furniture, and other applications, contributing to a more sustainable economy.
With 11 operational sites and 26 projects underway in India, Indonesia, Bangladesh, the Philippines, and Ghana, RiverRecycle is escalating its reach into some of the world's most plastic-affected regions. Each project is designed to meet the specific needs of local communities, ensuring that waste is managed in a way that benefits the environment without imposing financial burdens.
