Dottir appoints new CEO – Daniel Stranius, to lead Dottir's next growth phase
Helsinki, 23 January 2025 – Dottir has appointed attorney Daniel Stranius as its new CEO, effective 1 March 2025. Stranius is an experienced legal professional specializing in technology law, with extensive expertise as a practicing attorney and an in-house counsel in Finland and abroad.
"Daniel is the ideal choice to lead Dottir's next growth phase. He is a highly respected colleague and technology lawyer, internationally recognized for his exceptional client service. As a long-standing partner at the firm, Daniel has a deep understanding of Dottir's culture and a clear vision for taking us to the next level as a future-ready law firm," says Jukka Pello, Chairman of the Board.
Stranius transitions to this role from his position as Head of Dottir's Tech & IP team. He has been with Dottir since 2018 and previously worked at TietoEvry (formerly Tieto Oyj) in Finland and Sweden, as well as at the international law firm Bird & Bird. He holds a Master of Laws degree from the University of Helsinki.
"I am incredibly excited and motivated by this opportunity to build on the exceptional work of my predecessors. In a short time, Dottir has grown into a firm of over 50 specialists, with a turnover exceeding 9 million euros. While we will continue focusing on growth in the years ahead, our primary goal is to invest in Dottir's unique corporate culture and working methods. In business law, as in many other fields, there is an increasing push for efficiency and automation driven by technologies like artificial intelligence. Legal professionals now operate in environments constantly shaped by new technology. Amid this transformation, the need for humanity, open communication, and a positive corporate culture has never been greater. At Dottir, we are dedicated to preserving and championing these values," says Stranius.
Dottir's current CEO, attorney Johanna Rantanen, will transition to the roles of Chair of the Board and Head of the Tech & IP team starting 1 March 2025. Rantanen, one of Dottir's founders, has led the firm since 2019. The company's turnover has tripled during her tenure, growing at an average rate of 20% annually. Under her leadership, Dottir has expanded into debt finance, energy and environmental law while solidifying its position in corporate transactions. Dottir has been recognized by some of the world's most prestigious legal publications, including Chambers and Partners, Legal 500, IFLR1000, and the Lexology Index (formerly Who's Who Legal). The firm has also been shortlisted twice for the Financial Times' FT Most Innovative Law Firm Europe list.
"I want to thank Johanna for her exceptional leadership, dedication, and invaluable contributions to Dottir. Under her guidance, Dottir has firmly established itself within Finland's business law landscape, earning a reputation as a bold and respected firm that shapes the industry. Johanna is a deeply admired and appreciated colleague who has demonstrated that the best leaders thrive as an integral part of a supportive and caring community," says Stranius.
"I'm proud of how we've grown in less than ten years from a small growth company into one of the most dynamic players in our field. This achievement is built on our courage to evolve and continually challenge our methods. These traits have been at the core of Dottir's DNA since day one. Business law is traditionally a conservative field, which makes regular self-reflection all the more essential. Our goal is to cultivate a work culture that meets the evolving expectations of our clients and employees and inspires and pushes the industry forward," says Rantanen.
Jukka Pello, who has served as Chair of the Board since the company’s inception, will focus on further strengthening Dottir’s services for growth companies and investors while supporting the new leadership in developing the firm’s unique corporate culture.
