Kempower to deliver fast charging technology for Sweden’s largest electric truck charging station

Kempower will deliver fast charging technology to Scania for Swedish Falkenklev Logistik’s new electric truck depot in Malmö, Sweden. The delivery will include Kempower C- and S-Series fast charging solutions and the Kempower ChargEye backend and cloud solutions.

The electric truck charging station is the result of an ambitious project involving several forerunner companies in the transport and renewable energy ecosystem industries. Scania will deliver an e-mobility solution including five battery electric 4x2 trucks and 1.6MW Kempower fast charging equipment to the new depot. Falkenklev has also commissioned Soltech Energy Solutions to build a 1.5-hectare solar park along with 2 MW of battery energy storage to create a state-of-the-art energy hub.

The Kempower fast charging system is built on smart technology, Kempower ChargEye. The ChargEye technology can supply energy based on the number of vehicles charging simultaneously, with an initial maximum output per vehicle of 250 kW and the potential to upgrade to 320 kW per vehicle in the future. Consideration has been given to making the site future-proof to allow charging of up-coming generations of BEVs with bigger batteries and longer range.

The new depot is part of Falkenklev’s visionary plan to have a charging station for the company’s 22 vehicles. When opened later this year, it will become Sweden’s largest truck charging station. In the future, the site could potentially be expanded to charge up to 40 vehicles simultaneously. In addition, Falkenklev has agreed to make the charging stations publicly available for daytime charging of other vehicles, while the stations will be used for charging the haulier’s own trucks at night. The site will also be built to allow for en-route charging of long-haul electric trucks.

Falkenklev Logistik’s CEO Victor Falkenklev says, “The charging stations and solar park are an idea I have had for a couple of years. With the need to become more sustainable and the way diesel prices are increasing, it was quite obvious to me that we had to do something, and we are committed to electrifying our fleet. The electricity is being generated by solar power, which makes it 100% fossil-free. It’s a really proud moment for us.”
