Share
Admission to exhibitions at the Ateneum Art Museum is becoming easier. The Ateneum is increasing the number of daily visitors, and tickets will also be sold at the door from Tuesday 22 June 2021. The same day marks the start of the sale of additional tickets at Lippu.fi for the period from 6 July to 29 August (selling begins at 9:00). Pre-booking tickets is still recommended if you want to guarantee your admission to the museum at a preferred time. The number of visitors admitted can be increased now that the Regional State Administrative Agency for Southern Finland has relaxed the restrictions on assembly and safe distances that were in force in the Helsinki metropolitan area.

Tickets to the Repin exhibition in extremely high demand

An exhibition of the work of the very popular painter Ilya Repin will run until Sunday 29 August 2021. Other concurrent shows are Hannu Väisänen and Schillmark Variations, which will run until 8 August 2021 in the Fokus gallery, and the Stories of Finnish Art collection exhibition. Currently, 80 per cent of the pre-bookable tickets for the summer exhibitions have been sold.

We recommend pre-booking tickets

All pre-booked tickets to the exhibitions are sold through Lippu.fi. We recommend pre-booking your ticket if you want to guarantee your admission to the museum at a preferred time.

When purchasing tickets through Lippu.fi, the price of a normal ticket is €19, and the price of a concession ticket is €17 (students, pensioners, unemployed, conscripts, and non-military conscripts). From 22 June, Lippu.fi will also accept various yearly passes (including the Museum Card, press card, Friends of the Ateneum membership card, and teacher identity card) as means of payment. Tickets can also be pre-booked for people under 18 through Lippu.fi. The eligibility for a discounted or free ticket is checked at the entrance.

Depending on the chosen delivery method, a Lippu.fi service fee of two euros and a booking fee of at least one euro are added to all prices, including for tickets purchased through Lippu.fi, as well as tickets acquired with free-entry cards and tickets for under 18-year-olds. In addition to being available on the Lippu.fi online service, tickets can be purchased from the Lippu.fi telephone service at +358 600 900 900 (Mon–Fri, 9:00–17:00, €2/minute + mobile call charge/local network charge) and at the Stockmann department store.

Buy a ticket through Lippu.fi

From 22 June, tickets will also be on sale at the Ateneum

People buying tickets at the museum should be prepared for queues. The time of entry depends on the number of visitors present at the museum at the time of purchase. Ticket sales at the door end one hour before the museum’s closing time.

Only the ticket price of €19 or €17 will be charged for a ticket purchased at the museum. Holders of various yearly passes and under 18-year olds will be admitted to the Ateneum without having to pay the Lippu.fi service and booking fees, when they buy their ticket at the museum.

Different entrances for visitors with pre-booked tickets and those buying tickets at the door

Access for museum visitors with pre-booked tickets is through the entrance on Ateneuminkuja. Each admission ticket is sold with an arrival time. Arrival times are staggered at 30-minute intervals. Visitors can arrive at any time during the 30-minute period stated on their ticket. If the arrival time on your ticket is the last of the day, you should arrive promptly at the start time, which gives you one hour to explore the exhibition before the museum closes.

Access for Ateneum visitors buying their tickets at the museum is through the main entrance on Kaivokatu.

In August, the Ateneum will be open every day from 10:00 to 21:00

During the last four weeks of the Repin exhibition, from 2 to 29 August 2021, the Ateneum will be open from Monday to Sunday from 10:00 to 21:00.

Suomen tunnetuimpiin taiteilijoihin kuuluvan Helene Schjerfbeckin teosten näyttely nähdään arvostetussa New Yorkin The Metropolitan Museum of Artissa (The Met) 5.12.2025–5.4.2026.

Helene Schjerfbeck exhibition to be shown at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York2.4.2025 07:40:00 EEST | Press release

An exhibition of works by one of Finland’s most famous artists, Helene Schjerfbeck, will be presented at the prestigious Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met) in New York from 5 December 2025 to 5 April 2026. This is the first time that a Finnish artist has landed an exhibition at The Met, one of the most significant art museums in the world. The exhibition is the result of long-term work by the Ateneum and part of the Klassikot maailmalle (“Taking Finnish classics abroad”) project, which takes Finnish visual art abroad with the support of the Jane and Aatos Erkko Foundation.

Tervetuloa Rajojen rikkojat -näyttelyn tiedotustilaisuuteen keskiviikkona 5.3.202518.2.2025 10:00:00 EET | Tiedote

Rajojen rikkojat raivasivat tietä seuraavien sukupolvien taiteilijoille. Monet näyttelyn rohkeista taiteilijoista olivat myöhemmin eläneiden naistaiteilijoiden, kuten Helene Schjerfbeckin ja Ellen Thesleffin esikuvia. Taidehistoriallisesti merkittävä näyttely nostaa esiin aikaisemmin täysin tuntemattomia taiteilijoita ja heidän verkostojaan, sekä esittelee Suomessa ennen näkemättömiä teoksia. Näyttely jatkaa Ateneumin työtä naistaiteilijoihin liittyvän tutkimuksen edelläkävijänä.
