Tapiola’s museums will host a weekend-long nineties party on March 15-16, 2025, with a packed programme of events hosted at the Exhibition Centre WeeGee, EMMA – Espoo Museum of Modern Art, KAMU Espoo City Museum, Leikki – the Museum of Play, and the Finnish Museum of Horology and Jewellery Kruunu. The Children’s Museum Festival brings back the magic of the nineties in a nostalgic cavalcade of music, retro fashion, beloved toys and classic characters, offering a weekend of unforgettable fun for the whole family!

Taking us back to the nineties is a line-up of performers including the Jokeri Pokeri Box magic show and ventriloquist Sari Aalto. Also stepping onto the stage with a fun aerobics show are the loveable Moomins, who have melted hearts since their first appearance on television back in the nineties. Be inspired by Espoon tanssiopisto’s child performers and show off your own best nineties moves as the AnnanHouse Disco plays the most danceable hits of the decade. And don’t forget to test your music memory in our song trivia quiz!

The whole family is welcome to join in the fun, games and nineties-themed workshops. Get creative and craft your own flashy jewellery, write greetings in our friendship book, and rediscover the Troll Dolls, Ninja Turtles and Tamagotchis. Travel back to the unforgettable 1995 Hockey Championships, and challenge your friends to a classic nineties console game! If you’re lucky, you might meet Pikachu, Mr. Clutterbuck and other popular icons loved by kids since the 1990s. Also be on the lookout for our silly 90s Researchers – they’ll need your help figuring out exactly where they’ve landed in their time machine!

The festival programme also takes in the Espoo School of Art and the Arkki School of Architecture for Children and Youth. This year, activities will be hosted in the museum courtyard as well, where you can ride a hobbyhorse or borrow classic nineties books from the Activity Bus Välkky.

If all the excitement leaves you feeling out of breath, there’s a rest corner in the basement of the Exhibition Centre WeeGee where you can recharge your batteries, read books, or even take a nap. The space is dimly lit and there are hearing protectors for kids.

Everyone is warmly welcome to spend a creative weekend on Ahertajantie in the Tapiola district of Espoo! Admission to the Children’s Museum Festival is included in the museums’ entrance fees, which are free for children. The programme runs from Saturday to Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Museum Leikki and Museum Kruunu open their doors already at 10 a.m. For further details and timetables, please visit: www.lastenmuseofestarit.fi.
